2024 March Madness: Conference tournament scores, brackets, automatic bids, schedules, times, TV channels

A mammoth championship Saturday of college basketball is in store as 13 different conferences will crown tournament champions. While a handful of multi-bid leagues are among the contingent, the stakes will be highest in places such as the America East and Conference USA. Both are examples of projected one-bid leagues for the NCAA Tournament, and their title games will decide who gets a spot in the Big Dance.

No. 1 seed Vermont is tangling with No. 2 seed UMass Lowell for the America East title as the Catamounts seek to reach the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row under 13th-year coach John Becker, who already has five conference tournament titles under his belt. Conference USA is one that is guaranteed to produce an unexpected winner as No. 5 seed UTEP takes on No. 3 seed Western Kentucky.

Conference tournament action rolled on around college basketball on Friday as the countdown to Selection Sunday continued with numerous leagues in semifinal action. While it’s the NCAA Tournament that is known for Cinderella teams, the MAC Tournament is providing us one a week ahead of time in the form of Kent State.

The No. 8 seed Golden Flashes marched on to the MAC Tournament title game with a 73-60 win over No. 5 seed Bowling Green after eliminating No. 1 seed Toledo in the opening round on Thursday. Kent State was just 15-16 (8-10 MAC) during the regular season and never won more than two games in a row against Division I opposition. But if the Golden Flashes win one more game, they’ll be heading to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year.

As automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament are secured, we’ll be noting each of them here.
