Former Tallahassee-area state Sen. Loranne Ausley, who was seriously injured in a bicycle accident in Bay County earlier this month, has been moved to a spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation center in Georgia, her husband posted on Facebook Sunday.
Ausley was transferred from the Ascension Sacred Heart Emergency Care and Trauma Center in Panama City to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Bill Hollimon said.
“She is working hard with her therapists and we are hopeful for a complete recovery,” he said in the post.
The accident happened during a triathlon, Hollimon previously posted, and Ausley has had surgery on her neck.
“She has a lot of hard work ahead but hard work is good work and she’s ready for it,” he added in Sunday’s post.
“For those who have sent prayers and continue to think of Loranne, our family thanks you. You can send her mail at the following address. We request you send uplifting cards, letters, and notes only; please no gifts or packages.”
The address is Loranne Ausley – BFR505 c/o Shepherd Center, 1860 Peachtree Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.

The post had more than 200 comments by early Monday, including from state lawmakers. Ausley, a Democrat, first served in the Florida House of Representatives in 2000-08, returned in 2016, then was elected to represent the Big Bend in the state Senate in 2020. She lost a reelection bid in 2022.
“That’s such great news!” posted state Sen. Tina Polsky, D-Boca Raton. “So happy to hear this. Will continue to pray for complete recovery. Sending love,” added state Sen. Lori Berman, D-Boynton Beach.
Ausley, an attorney, is a sixth-generation resident of Tallahassee and serves on the board of directors of the Institute for Child Success and the Claude Pepper Foundation, according to her official bio.
The Leon High grad also is the daughter of legendary Tallahassee lawyer DuBose “Duby” Ausley.
