Louisville could see light snow in 2 waves Wednesday. When its coming and how much to expect

Light snowfall might create slick spots ahead of the Wednesday morning commute and more snow showers are expected to follow, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.

Around a tenth of an inch of snow is possible overnight Tuesday, NWS Louisville meteorologist Samantha Michlowitz said. Any accumulating snow could melt “pretty well.”

“The impact that will see from this is not necessarily from snow accumulation, but actually from some quickly falling temperatures,” Michlowitz said. “So bridges, overpasses, any low-lying areas might see a little bit of patchy ice, but for the most part, as far as snow goes, we should be able to handle that pretty well because (the accumulations) are very small.”

The change from rain to snow is the result of a cold front moving into the region, Michlowitz said. The front is expected to cool temperatures by around 20 degrees Tuesday night. Cold air will then linger for a few days.

The second wave of light snow may come Wednesday afternoon, according to the weather service’s forecast. Snow accumulation will likely be similar to the overnight snow showers, Michlowitz said.
