Person seriously hurt after trying to light fire pit on balcony of DC apartment


WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — DC Fire and EMS (DCFD) said someone was seriously hurt after trying to light a fire pit on their balcony in Northwest.

Firefighters responded to a high-rise apartment building in the 1900 block of 14th St. after someone attempted to light their fire pit outside on the balcony.

DCFD said one person received “serious injuries” and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

There was not any structural involvement.

DCFD said it is illegal to use a fire pit within 25 feet of a structure.
