Read the Ethics Committee report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz


The House Ethics Committee released a long-awaited report on its investigation into former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.

The panel investigated multiple allegations against Gaetz on and off since 2021, including those concerning sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, accepting improper gifts, giving special favors to people with whom he had personal relationships and obstructing the House Ethics probe itself.

The investigation came to an end when Gaetz resigned from Congress in November after he was announced as President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for U.S. attorney general. (The Ethics panel only has jurisdiction over sitting members of Congress.) Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration to lead the Justice Department on Nov. 21, as details emerged about the testimony of women who spoke to the Ethics committee.
