Donald Trump appears to have debuted a new look—and the reviews it’s getting on social media are less than glowing.
Trump’s signature hairstyle—golden, puffed-up, and tightly coiffed—has been an iconic part of his brand since long before he stepped into the political arena.
But a new video of the president-elect circulating on social media seems to show him with a totally different do. In a clip posted by one of Trump’s supporters at his golf club in Palm Beach, his mane appears to be more compact and closer-cropped on the sides than it did at his last press conference.
It’s not clear if the switch-up is due to a fresh cut, a alternative styling routine, or the compression from Trump’s signature red MAGA cap.
Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment on the president-elect’s new look.
In any case, social media users wasted no time weighing in on the ostensible style shift.
User @Bricktop_NAFO compared the look to that of Buzz McCallister, the tarantula-owning older brother from the 90s flick Home Alone.
“Trump cut his hair and now he looks like an angry grandpa at a country club,” observed @keatonmerrell. “He also seems to be going easy on the orange.”
While most comments were derisive, at least one X user was impressed by Trump’s appearance. “Looking Good Mr. President!!!” wrote @nikhilgawde72.
It’s not the first time that speculation has swirled around whether Trump had moved away from his standard hairstyle. In 2019, he appeared with his hair slicked back and flat for a somber church service in honor of the victims of a mass shooting.
Soon after, though, his typical fluffy mane made its return.
